植物と猫と過ごした10日間

10 days spent with plants and cats

In this blog, I record how I use the money and time you have supported me every month. Please read it if you like. This is a report on my activities for November 2022.

In November, I went to Ibaraki prefecture to create a mural. Since two years ago, I have been going out of the prefecture once every three or four months. Thanks to that, I have been getting requests to create murals for people in the Kanto region, and I have been invited to events.

Mural work is often requested by people who have seen my murals. That's why I take each job seriously. I sketch many times until I'm satisfied with the result, and when I'm not confident, I practice on the wall of my studio.

However, I felt that I would not be able to complete the work from November to December this year with my current capabilities.

Thankfully, all of the requests were ones I wanted to paint. I wanted to paint all of them, but I wasn't satisfied with my current skills. But I didn't have enough time to improve the quality. Still, I wanted to make it in time, so I returned to my studio in Kagoshima to practice for the next mural project.

Although I only had 10 days to stay in Kagoshima, it rained day after day. I couldn't paint on the walls on rainy days, so I felt anxious for days on end.

One day, I saw some Leathops at a local hardware store. I thought, "Oh! So cute!" and bought four of them on impulse. Lol

Lithops is a plant that mimics rocks and stones in the rocky desert region of Namibia, a country in southwestern Africa. It has an interesting feature: it sheds its skin about once a year. I had seen them before, but this was the first time I had actually gotten one.

On rainy days, I would observe the lithops and spend time with my cat. I felt like my mind was more stable than before.

The client entrusts me with a commission because they trust my paintings and my work. I am also the kind of artist who returns to Kagoshima at my own expense to practice. There is no way an artist like me would leave a job half-done. Even if my stay is extended or I end up in the red, I won't call it "finished" until I'm satisfied with it.

I realized that I was the only one who didn't trust my own drawings.

While I was in Kagoshima, I was only able to practice drawing on the wall once. But somehow I felt like it would be okay. I felt like I could draw in my own style if I wasn't held back by anxiety or impatience.

After successfully completing the mural for the CBD store "Peekaboo" in Mito, I will be creating murals in Kanagawa and Tokyo in December. I plan to paint each one carefully and enjoyably.

This concludes our activity report for November 2022. Thank you for reading to the end.
